Judi’s House volunteers are committed to the growth of our mission.
Volunteers play several roles, acting as Volunteer Companions, Nourishment Providers, and "House and Mission" Volunteers.
Read more below, and contact our Volunteer Manager using the Interest Form below.
Volunteer Companions:
No child or caregiver should ever feel alone in their grief. Honoring the philosophies of Companioning, our Volunteer Companions are caring, consistent and skilled adults walking beside grieving children and caregivers. Following the leadership of our Grief Counselors, Companions provide additional adult presence in the peer-support groups facilitated at Judi’s House.
Time Commitment for Volunteer Companions:
- An initial one-year commitment is required.
- Our peer-support groups meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Judi’s House.
- We do not have any weekend companioning opportunities at this time.
Enrollment requirements for Volunteer Companions:
- STEP 1: Contact Volunteer Manager (bottom of page).
- STEP 2: Attend an information session at Judi’s House.
- STEP 3: Complete in-person volunteer interview and background checks.
- STEP 4: Attend Volunteer Training – a 24 hour weekend series.
- STEP 5: Become "approved" by Judi's House to become a Volunteer Companion.
Nourishment Providers:
Volunteer Nourishment Providers prepare, present and serve a tasty and nutritious meal for our children and caregivers - and clean up afterward. Normally, they recruit a few friends/colleagues to help provide dinners for group sizes ranging from 40 to 100. Ideal group sizes for preparing, presenting and serving dinner is two or three.
Time Commitment for Nourishment Providers:
- Commitments vary. Commit to one meal, or a series.
- Volunteers cook the meal offsite, and warm/prepare the meal at the house.
- Volunteers generally arrive at the house between 4:00pm and 4:30pm to prepare the meal.
- Volunteers normally conclude clean-up around 6:30pm.
